Practical Tattooing Application

Tattoo Design, Application and Equipment

12 weeks - 2 days per week  

Prerequisite: Tattoo Portfolio

Building on the color theory and design from the previous course, students will  further develop their tattoo portfolio as well as explore traditional tattoo painting techniques. Technical tattooing processes and tattoo equipment will be explored in depth.

In the second half of this course, students will transition to the practical application of tattoos on fake skin with supervision and oversight by a mentor.

Each week will consist of:

6 hours of instruction and observation by mentor at the shop

3 or more hours shop help, observing, practicing sanitation, and client management  

After competing this 3 month course, students will be eligible to move on to part 3 of the apprenticeship program.

  • Designing for the body

  • Placing stencils & client positioning

  • Tattoo Machines, needles and other equipment education

  • Client Management; consultation, aftercare, scheduling, pricing

  • Tattoo techniques; lining, shading, stippling, color packing, black and grey

  • Artificial skin practice

  • Common mistakes
